Heavy rains have affected Lagoa Grande, Ouricuri, and Petrolina in Pernambuco, Brazil, causing flooding and displacing families.

The municipalities of Lagoa Grande, Ouricuri, and Petrolina in the Sertão region of Pernambuco are experiencing significant rainfall, with Lagoa Grande recording the highest at 53.7 mm. The ongoing rainfall has led to a state of attention declared by the Agência Pernambucana de Águas e Clima (Apac), indicating forecasts for moderate to heavy rain in the area. Local authorities are on alert as the precipitation continues to pose risks for flooding and related incidents.

In Lagoa Grande, the intensity of the rain has resulted in significant urban flooding, particularly in the city center, where several streets have become inundated. Additionally, reports confirm that in the Vermelhos district, five families have been displaced due to the weather conditions. In the city itself, 24 families were directly affected, and there was a report of a house collapsing; fortunately, there were no casualties, only material damages.

Petrolina also suffered from severe rains during the night and into Wednesday morning, compounding the challenges faced by residents and local governments. The overall situation underscores the vulnerability of these areas to extreme weather events and the need for preparedness in the face of ongoing climate challenges.
