Low-income residential parking permit zones introduced to Nutana area
The City of Saskatoon has launched low-income residential parking permit zones in Nutana to alleviate parking congestion caused by nearby hospitals and educational facilities.
In an effort to address parking issues in the Nutana area of Saskatoon, the City has introduced low-income residential permit parking zones on Main Street, 10th Street, and Dufferin Avenue. This initiative comes in response to resident petitions highlighting the challenges posed by increased parking demand from local hospitals and educational institutions, as well as commercial areas. It is designed to ease parking congestion and provide relief to local residents who have been affected by non-resident vehicles occupying available parking spaces.
Under the new parking program, about 102 residents will be able to purchase residential parking permits at an annual fee of $15, with visitor permits costing between $5 and $25. Each affected dwelling unit is permitted to acquire up to three residential and one visitor parking permit. Additionally, a two-hour parking limit will be enforced for vehicles without permits, further encouraging compliance and maximizing parking availability for residents.
This newly approved parking scheme represents the sixth such permit parking zone established as part of the cityβs broader initiative to manage residential parking. The revenue generated from this program is estimated to reach approximately $3,120 annually, which may assist the city in maintaining the program and addressing ongoing parking issues in high-demand neighborhoods like Nutana.
