An elderly woman was rescued by residents after her house flooded due to heavy rains in Varzedo, Bahia.
On Tuesday afternoon, in Varzedo, located 125 km from Feira de Santana, an elderly woman was rescued from her flooded home by local residents during a pronounced episode of heavy rains. Footage captured by bystanders shows the water rising to the woman's waist as she was helped out of the house. The ordeal resulted in many vehicles being nearly submerged, highlighting the severity of the flooding in the area.
The city officials reported that approximately 40 families were relocated to a municipal daycare center on Tuesday night due to the flooding, with some staying there until the morning of Wednesday, while 15 families remain homeless as a result. Areas particularly affected include the Campo neighborhood, Sol Posto, and several rural zones, where numerous homes and businesses have reported water incursion.
Additionally, in a separate incident, a man was swept away by the currents but was eventually rescued after becoming trapped in a fence. This situation underscores the broader challenges faced by the community as it deals with the aftermath of severe weather events, emphasizing the urgent need for support and interventions for the affected families.
