Heavy rain floods daycare and houses in Posse; video
A heavy rain caused significant flooding in a daycare and houses in Posse, northeastern Goiás, Brazil, leading to a temporary emergency situation.
On Tuesday, August 4, a powerful rainstorm inundated a daycare facility and several houses in Posse, a city located in northeastern Goiás, Brazil. The rainfall was so intense that it caused flooding in classrooms at the Gotinha Mágica daycare, where children aged between 1 and 3 years were present. The local Secretary of Education, Márcio Víctor Gonçalves dos Santos, expressed concerns about the water rising quickly during the ongoing rain, which could have led to a more severe emergency.
Fortunately, all 94 children at the daycare were safely evacuated by the Fire Brigade as the water began to enter the building. Videos captured during the ordeal show the extent of the flooding within the classrooms and the rescue efforts undertaken to ensure the children's safety. The quick response from emergency services helped to prevent any tragic outcomes from the flooding, which was a significant concern for both the daycare staff and parents.
In response to the flooding, the local government has indicated that the Gotinha Mágica daycare is currently housed in an old building and plans to move to a newly constructed facility, which is expected to be completed within the next month. This relocation aims to provide a safer environment for the children in light of such severe weather events, ensuring that they will no longer be exposed to the risks associated with flooding in older structures.
