72-year-old woman sold drugs – had cash in her bathrobe
A 72-year-old woman in Sweden was sentenced to eight months in prison for drug offenses after police found cannabis and narcotics in her home during a search.
In a case that has drawn attention in Sweden, a 72-year-old woman has been sentenced to eight months in prison for drug-related offenses. Last year, police conducted two searches of her residence based on suspicions of drug trafficking, during which they discovered 18 grams of cannabis and 1,089 narcotics pills. The situation escalated when officers observed a significant amount of cash protruding from the pocket of her bathrobe — nearly 5,000 Swedish kronor — along with an additional 8,400 kronor found in her handbag, which raised questions about her activities.
The woman, whose escort expressed surprise at the allegations, claimed to have no prior knowledge of drug use in her home. However, police records indicate that various drug paraphernalia, notably redline bags commonly associated with narcotics, were visibly scattered throughout her residence. The woman argued that she had been unable to see her surroundings well due to poor eyesight, suggesting that she could not have any awareness of the activities taking place in her home.
Despite her claims of ignorance, evaluations from the Swedish Prison and Probation Service indicated a need for support and interventions aimed at addressing her substance abuse, criminal behavior, and physical health issues. The case underscores broader societal problems related to drug use among vulnerable demographics and raises important questions about caregiver responsibility and the treatment of older individuals involved in drug-related activities.
