Femarh provides numbers for reporting environmental crime in Roraima
The state environmental agency of Roraima has launched dedicated phone numbers for the public to report environmental crimes via WhatsApp or call.
The State Foundation for the Environment and Water Resources (Femarh) in Brazil has announced the introduction of two exclusive emergency contact numbers for reporting environmental crimes, available 24/7 through WhatsApp or voice calls. This initiative aims to enhance the reporting process by allowing citizens to share messages, photographs, videos, and location details, thereby facilitating the prompt action of environmental enforcement agencies against environmental offenses.
Currently, Roraima is experiencing a significant uptick in environmental concerns, particularly wildfires, as it reported the highest number of heat spots in Brazil, totaling 66 cases in just one day. According to the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe), Roraima has recorded a cumulative total of 925 heat spots this year alone. This alarming trend emphasizes the urgency of the newly established reporting lines to combat such crimes effectively.
The availability of these reporting channels is set against the backdrop of a challenging environmental landscape in Roraima, indicating a pressing need for community involvement in protecting natural resources. As land dryness and elevated temperatures create conditions conducive to wildfires, the state's response through Femarh is crucial for gathering information and mobilizing resources to tackle these environmental threats efficiently.
