Participant excluded from prize pool in Mega-Sena received R$ 180 thousand after judicial agreement, says lawyer
A participant excluded from a Mega-Sena pool has received R$ 180,000 after a judicial agreement to settle a dispute regarding a late payment claim.
A resident of Goiânia who was excluded from a Mega-Sena prize pool has successfully received R$ 180,000 from the organizer following a judicial agreement. The participant's defense argued that the amount consisted of R$ 160,000 owed plus monetary correction. The issue escalated to the Court of Justice of Goiás after the pool organizer refused to pay the participant, claiming late payment of the share before the lottery draw.
In February of this year, Judge Joyre Cunha Sobrinho of the 29th Civil Court of Goiânia ruled in favor of the participant, refuting the organizer's argument. The judge stated that the payment had indeed been made prior to the lottery draw and emphasized that the organizer did not contest the validity of the payment when the participant provided proof via a messaging app. This ruling underscored judicial recognition of the participant's claim and reinforced the importance of adhering to agreed-upon terms within such betting arrangements.
The participant, who is 78 years old and wishes to remain anonymous to avoid exposure, has emphasized the significance of the ruling for ensuring fair practices in lottery participations. This case highlights broader issues related to trust in collective betting arrangements and the role of judicial systems in mediating these disputes, especially for vulnerable individuals like the elderly involved in such financial activities.
