R. Tamašunienė: after audits, LKT head M. Kairys is given a chance to improve
Lithuania's Minister R. Tamašunienė announced that LKT head M. Kairys will be given an opportunity to rectify identified work deficiencies following previous audits.
In a recent statement, Lithuanian Minister R. Tamašunienė highlighted that previous audits of the LKT (Lithuanian Prison Department) revealed certain work deficiencies. Despite these findings, the government has decided to give the head of the agency, M. Kairys, a chance to correct these issues. Tamašunienė expressed optimism about the progress being observed, indicating that a corrective plan has been developed to address the auditors' concerns and will be presented to trade unions.
The Minister emphasized the importance of addressing the deficiencies identified by the audits, describing them as 'correctable issues.' Kairys's position is strengthened by the acknowledgment of a potential path toward improvement rather than outright dismissal. Last year, Kairys faced several disciplinary actions following internal reviews, which included reprimands from the government for his management of the prison system.
The corrective measures and plans set forth by the LKT aim to enhance the functioning of the department, ensuring compliance with the auditor's recommendations. This development suggests the government's intent to support leadership within the prison department while also holding them accountable for past shortcomings, potentially leading to a more efficient administration in the future.
