'I will not record such songs anymore', says Shreya Ghoshal regarding 'Chikni Chameli' song

Singer Shreya Ghoshal has decided not to record songs similar to her hit 'Chikni Chameli' in the future due to discomfort with the content of certain lyrics.

Shreya Ghoshal, renowned for her melodious voice and the love she has garnered from millions, has been in the spotlight recently for her old hit song 'Chikni Chameli,' released in 2012 for the film Agneepath. Despite the song's lasting popularity, Ghoshal has publicly declared that she will not be recording similar songs in the future, a move that has sparked discussions on social media. Her statement indicates a significant stand against the portrayal of women in certain lyrics that are objectifying or uncomfortable to her as an artist.

In a candid conversation with Raj Shamani on a podcast, Ghoshal expressed that while she recognizes the success of 'Chikni Chameli' and still performs it, she became increasingly uneasy with the type of lyrics she was being offered post its success. This discomfort grew particularly after a music composer friend shared certain lines that depicted women in an objectified manner, leading Ghoshal to reflect on the impact of such lyrics on society and her own artistic integrity.

Ghoshal's decision to reject objectifying lyrics reflects a broader movement within the music industry and beyond, where artists are increasingly taking a stand against misogyny and the inappropriate representation of women. The response from her fanbase and the public will likely influence other artists to consider the content of the songs they choose to perform or record, thereby contributing to a change in industry standards regarding lyrical content.
