Prime Minister: The Lithuanian Embassy in the UAE Should Communicate More Actively with Citizens in the Region

Lithuanian Prime Minister emphasizes the need for the country's embassy in the UAE to enhance communication with its citizens in the region amid ongoing discussions about the evacuation of vulnerable citizens from the Middle East.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė expressed her concerns regarding the embassy's proactive communication efforts with Lithuanians residing in the UAE. During a press conference, she mentioned her recent discussions with the foreign minister, advocating for the embassy to take more initiative in engaging with citizens living in the region. This call for improved communication comes in the context of the Lithuanian government's announcement on plans for a possible evacuation of vulnerable citizens from the Middle East.

The government disclosed that approximately 20 citizens in the region may require assistance in leaving, but according to Vilmantas Vitkauskas, head of the National Crisis Management Center, the number of Lithuanians wishing to leave the region is actually much higher, with figures exceeding 1,400 and fluctuating over time. This indicates a growing urgency to address safety concerns for Lithuanians abroad as geopolitical tensions can lead to precarious situations.

The government’s acknowledgment of the need for action reflects a deeper awareness of the challenges faced by its citizens abroad and the responsibilities of the embassy to ensure their well-being. Engaging effectively with the community is essential for providing necessary support and timely updates, particularly in times of crisis. Such measures may not only assist in immediate evacuations but also build trust and reassurance among Lithuanians living in potentially dangerous regions.
