The women's basketball team will begin preparations with a roster of 17 players for important qualification battles
Latvia's women's basketball team is gearing up for crucial qualification matches against Slovenia, the Netherlands, and Estonia, with training starting soon.
The Latvian women's national basketball team is set to commence its preparations for important qualification matches scheduled for March 2023. Their first match will take place on March 11 in Riga against Slovenia, where Latvia previously faced defeat. Following this matchup, they will travel to Almere to play against the Netherlands on March 14 and then head to Tallinn to take on Estonia on March 17, marking an intense period for the team as they seek to improve their standing.
Head coach Matīss Rožlapa has articulated that while the training will begin on March 7, not all players will be present due to club commitments. Notably, some key players will be engaged in club championships, which poses a challenge for the team's full preparation. Despite these absences, the coach remains optimistic about the players' current form as the club season has reached its climax, suggesting that the athletes are in good shape to engage in international competition.
A noteworthy return to the team is center player Marta Miščenko, who is coming back after a two-year hiatus. Rožlapa has also called up promising guards Enija Ķīvīte and Madara Šmite, who contributed to the team's efforts during the summer. The roster changes and the integration of fresh players could bring new dynamics to the team as they prepare for critical qualifying rounds that could influence their international standings and opportunities in basketball competitions.
