SP registers 16 thefts and robberies of utility vehicles per day; Fiat Strada is the most stolen model

São Paulo saw an average of over 16 thefts and robberies of utility vehicles per day last year, with the Fiat Strada being the most targeted model.

Last year, the state of São Paulo recorded an alarming average of more than 16 thefts and robberies of utility vehicles daily, culminating in a total of 6,054 complaints. A study by Fecap in collaboration with Tracker revealed that among the ten most frequently stolen vehicles, three were Fiat Strada models and three were Toyota Hilux. Despite a slight decline of about 5% compared to 2024, this rate remains disturbingly high according to the report.

The Tracker Fecap Bulletin analyzed the logistics sector for the first time, finding that while thefts remained stable with a minimal change of -0.2%, robberies saw a notable decrease of -21.5%. This data suggests that while the overall trend is moving in a positive direction regarding robberies, the persistent number of thefts indicates a systemic issue in vehicle security and urban logistics. The growth of e-commerce, which quadrupled its revenue in less than a decade, has fundamentally altered urban logistics, significantly increasing the number of vans and commercial vehicles on the roads.

The report emphasizes the need for integrated security measures and urban planning to combat this rising trend of vehicle thefts amidst the evolving logistics landscape. Stakeholders from the government, logistics providers, and local law enforcement agencies must collaborate to enhance vehicle security measures and improve the situation in São Paulo, particularly as the logistics sector adapts to unprecedented demands.
