The Manifestation for a Free Iran. "The Left Abandoned the Event"

A rally in Rome for a free Iran highlighted the absence of certain political parties, particularly the left, raising questions about their support for the Iranian people's struggle against the regime.

A recent demonstration in Rome for a free Iran attracted various political groups, excluding the Democratic Party, the 5 Star Movement, and Action! The rally, organized by the Setteottobre association, featured passionate chants including, 'this is the last battle. We fight, we die, we will free Iran.' Attendees included Iranian dissidents sharing personal stories of escape from the regime, emphasizing the urgency of their plight and calling for solidarity from Italian society.

The absence of the so-called 'broad field' of leftist parties was a significant point raised during the event. The association Woman Life Freedom Europe criticized the progressive and leftist movements in Italy for not participating in previous demonstrations supporting the Iranian people, questioning the integrity of those who now oppose the Iranian regime. The stage echoed calls for unity and action against oppression, drawing applause from the crowd filled with Iranian and Israeli flags, and a large image of Reza Pahlavi, the heir to the last Shah of Iran.

Luigi Marattin, from the Liberal Democratic Party, defended the presence of the attendees, asserting that it was not up to them to justify their actions but rather for the absent parties to explain their lack of support for the movement. This rally not only highlighted the ongoing struggle of Iranians against their government but also reflected the political divides within Italy regarding foreign issues and humanitarian support, potentially impacting future discourse on international solidarity.
