Owl rescued on BR-459 in MG finds a new home in a national sanctuary

A rescued owl, unable to return to the wild due to injuries, has been placed in a national sanctuary known for raptor conservation.

A notable story surrounding wildlife care unfolded this week as a jacurutu, or earflap owl, which was injured on BR-459 in Southern Minas Gerais, has been reassigned to a permanent home at Parque dos Falcões in Sergipe, a national reference for the conservation of birds of prey. The owl, known scientifically as Bubo virginianus, was discovered in July 2025 between the municipalities of Caldas and Ipuiúna, suffering from a broken wing. The rescue operations were conducted by the EPR Sul de Minas team, who provided immediate medical assistance to the wounded bird.
