China's Two Sessions Have Commenced... "No Country Should Act Recklessly"

China's Two Sessions, its largest political event of the year, commenced with strong statements against reckless international actions, particularly targeting the United States amid rising global tensions.

The annual Two Sessions of China, comprising the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, kicked off, emphasizing a stern warning against any nation acting unilaterally on the global stage. Amidst the backdrop of geopolitical uncertainties due to tensions involving the U.S. and Iran, Chinese officials highlighted the need for mutual respect and coexistence, particularly with the anticipated visit of U.S. President Donald Trump to China later this month. The significance of this meeting is magnified by the ongoing trade wars and tariffs that China has faced since the beginning of Trump's second term.

Wang Huning, the chairman of the CPPCC, addressed the need for China to navigate complex international issues while managing internal reform and stability. He acknowledged that despite facing domestic challenges like economic stagnation, China met a growth target of around 5% last year, showcasing resilience in its economic management. This year’s Two Sessions are particularly crucial as they forecast China’s economic strategies and responses to external pressures, especially given the uncertainties of the global landscape influenced by conflicts in the Middle East.

At a preparatory press conference for the National People's Congress, spokesperson Liu Chenjin delivered pointed remarks that indirectly criticized the U.S. and Israel without naming them, asserting the principle of equality among nations as a core tenet of the UN Charter. His assertion that no country should dictate the fate of others echoed China's call for peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, underscoring the challenges ahead as the U.S.-China relationship remains one of the most significant geopolitical dynamics of the contemporary world.
