Finnish Foreign Ministry: Commercial Flights from the Middle East are Resuming

Commercial flights from the Middle East are gradually resuming, with many Finns being able to leave the area recently, according to Finland's Foreign Ministry.

According to Jussi Tanner, the Director of the Consular Department of the Finnish Foreign Ministry, commercial flights from the Middle East are beginning to resume after a period of disruption. He noted that on Wednesday, there are 74 scheduled flights departing from Dubai, with eleven of these heading directly to Europe before evening. Notably, some flights will be operated by large Airbus A380 aircraft, indicating a ramp-up in flight capacity. Tanner also mentioned that 14 flights are slated to depart from Abu Dhabi, and the land borders with Oman and Saudi Arabia have reopened.

Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen commented on the situation, stating that there were more commercial flights from the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday than on Monday, and it is very likely that more travel options will open up in the coming days. The resumption of these flights is crucial for many individuals who had been stranded in the region, including Finns, as it allows for safer and more reliable travel out of the area amidst ongoing tensions.

Additionally, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has reported that some British citizens who found themselves trapped in the Middle East will be repatriated on Wednesday evening. A charter flight is expected to depart from Muscat International Airport at 23:00 local time. This highlights a broader trend of governments facilitating the safe return of their citizens during times of crisis and emphasizes the importance of international cooperation in addressing the challenges faced by travelers in the region.
