It is truly Rembrandt. The museum in Amsterdam confirmed the authenticity of a work by the famous painter

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam has confirmed the authenticity of a previously disputed painting by Rembrandt, which will now be displayed as part of their collection.

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam announced that it has confirmed the authenticity of a long-disputed painting entitled 'The Vision of Zacharias in the Temple', created by Rembrandt in 1633. This acknowledgment comes after a thorough two-year investigation, which employed advanced technological analysis to establish that the painting was indeed by the renowned Dutch master. Taco Dibbits, the director of the museum, likened the discovery to finding a needle in a haystack, highlighting the significance of this authentication in the art world.

Previously, the artwork had been attributed to an unknown artist and was not displayed publicly for several decades after being purchased by a private collector in 1961. In fact, just a year prior to its acquisition, it was declared not to be a work of Rembrandt. The news of its authenticity not only restores the painting’s place in art history, but it also offers insights into Rembrandt's early style and transitions as an artist during his formative years in Amsterdam, after moving from Leiden.

Starting from March 4, the painting will be showcased in the Rijksmuseum alongside other masterpieces, marking its significant return to the public eye. This revelation not only enhances the museum's collection but also ignites interest in Rembrandt's works and the ongoing research surrounding his oeuvre, as historians and art enthusiasts alike look forward to seeing this rediscovered piece that contributes to understanding the depth and breadth of Rembrandt's artistry.
