The K18 basketball team of Aris has successfully returned to Thessaloniki after being trapped in Abu Dhabi due to the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Actions coordinated by Euroleague and the sponsoring company, in cooperation with the government, led to the chartering of a flight. The team flew to Istanbul and then returned by bus to Thessaloniki, where they were met by families at the Palais des Sports.
While the team has returned safely, 13 parents and members of the crew remain stranded in Abu Dhabi, with the return date still uncertain. The situation highlights the challenges faced by those caught in geopolitical conflicts, especially young athletes and their families. The return trip was described as initially concerning, but overall was considered safe as the team executed their plans.
Nikos Tsjoras, the K18 team's general manager and head of the mission, expressed relief upon their return, stating that the most important thing was that everyone was home and safe. He emphasized the team's primary concern now revolves around ensuring that the remaining parents and chaperones can return safely as well, reflecting the broader impact of the situation on personal lives amid international developments.
