Search for missing brothers in Bacabal (MA) reaches two months without answers

Two months after the disappearance of two young siblings in Bacabal, the investigation continues with no leads on their whereabouts.

Two months have passed since the disappearance of Ágatha Isabelly Reis Lago, 6, and Allan Michael Reis Lago, 4, in the quilombola community of São Sebastião dos Pretos in Bacabal, Maranhão. Despite extensive mobilization efforts that included 260 public agents and nearly 1,000 volunteers, the investigation remains ongoing without any concrete sense of direction regarding the children's location. The siblings went missing on January 4 while playing with their cousin, who has been the only child found, adding to the distress of the families involved.

Currently, the focus of the investigation is on the analysis and efforts from the Civil Police, which has scaled back its resources in the wooded areas surrounding where the children disappeared. The authorities have been tight-lipped about the details, stating that they cannot provide specifics on the circumstances or responsibilities linked to the case at this time. The waiting families have been left with uncertainty and desperation as the time elapses with no further leads available.

Publicly, officials have entertained various hypotheses regarding the children's disappearance, including kidnapping, drowning, attacks by wild animals, or even the possibility that they might still be alive elsewhere. However, with no definitive conclusions drawn, the community is left in a state of turmoil, and the families continue to seek answers amid fears for the children's safety.
