"Apologies are over." Marko Veisson returns to classic skiing after 30 years

Marko Veisson, a member of the musical group Puuluup, participates in the 48th Haanja Marathon despite having not skied in 30 years.

This Saturday marks the 48th Haanja Marathon, where Marko Veisson, a member of the beloved musical group Puuluup, will make his return to the classic skiing style after a 30-year hiatus. Surprisingly, Veisson has never participated in a ski marathon before, stating that he had previously focused more on endurance sports, using skating skis, which he found challenging for marathon participation. Despite his lack of marathon experience, his return to classic skiing is significant and reflects a personal challenge for Veisson.

Veisson explains that he had no intention of participating in a marathon this winter. His skiing experiences have generally been limited to recreational events in Haanja each winter. However, during one of his skiing outings this season, he crossed paths with the event organizers, which led to him being invited to participate in the marathon. Initially, the invitation was for a skating marathon, but due to prior commitments, Veisson decided to take part in the classic style instead. This unforeseen opportunity marks a turning point in his skiing journey after decades away from competitive skiing.

The Haanja Marathon is a notable event for the local skiing community, fostering enthusiasm among both participants and spectators. Veisson's decision to step back into the skiing scene not only revives his ties to this sport but also inspires others who may have stepped away from their hobbies. It demonstrates that engaging in physical activities, regardless of a long break, can be fulfilling and rewarding, encouraging other enthusiasts to rekindle their passions as well.
