Police Drone Shot Down with a Shotgun – Then the Shooter was Shot

A police drone was shot down by an individual armed with a shotgun in Nurmijärvi, Finland, leading to the police shooting the assailant in response.

On January 28th, a tense situation unfolded in Nurmijärvi when the police received a report about an individual threatening to use a weapon. The person, armed with a pump-action shotgun, was uncooperative and fired at a police drone monitoring the area. Authorities quickly dispatched multiple police units to the scene as the suspected shooter retreated towards a nearby residential area, prompting immediate warnings for local residents, including the staff and students of a nearby school, to remain indoors.

The police attempted to de-escalate the situation by commanding the individual to surrender and drop his weapon. However, the suspect did not comply with these orders and continued to disregard police warnings. This ultimately led to the police taking action and shooting the individual in the leg to neutralize the threat. Following the shooting, the suspect dropped the shotgun, and emergency medical assistance was provided immediately.

In the aftermath of the incident, the prosecutor's office determined that the police officer's use of force was justified, and there was no indication of any wrongdoing by the police. This incident underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in crisis situations and the importance of immediate response measures to prevent escalation and protect public safety.
