The US has struck nearly 2000 targets in Iran; Iran has fired 500 ballistic missiles
The U.S. military has launched strikes on nearly 2,000 targets in Iran, amid escalating tensions with Iranian forces who have responded by firing 500 ballistic missiles.
Since Saturday, when the United States and Israel initiated attacks on Iran, the U.S. military has conducted strikes on nearly 2,000 targets, according to the Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees U.S. operations in the Middle East. Admiral Brad Cooper announced via the social media platform X that these unprecedented operations aim to eliminate Iran's capabilities to threaten American forces. The operations have significantly damaged Iran's air defenses and destroyed hundreds of Iranian ballistic missiles, launch systems, and drones.
In less than 100 hours, 17 Iranian naval vessels have also been destroyed, including Iranβs most prominent submarine. Admiral Cooper emphasized the goal of sinking Iran's entire naval fleet, stating that there are currently no Iranian ships in the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, or Gulf of Oman, regions that have posed decades-long threats to international shipping. The involvement of the U.S. suggests a considerable escalation in military engagement and a shift in regional power dynamics.
Iran's missile response, with the launch of 500 ballistic missiles, highlights the ongoing conflictβs severity and the potential for further escalation. As both nations continue to engage militarily, the actions could lead to broader regional instability and prompt international responses to deter the conflict's expansion. This clash reflects deeper geopolitical tensions in the region, particularly concerning U.S. interests and Iranian military capabilities.
