Mercs calls for Trump to include Europe in peace talks about Ukraine

German Chancellor Friedrich Mercs has urged U.S. President Donald Trump to exert more pressure on Moscow and include Europe in peace discussions regarding Ukraine.

On Tuesday, German Chancellor Friedrich Mercs called on U.S. President Donald Trump to intensify pressure on Moscow and to incorporate European representatives in any peace negotiations concerning Ukraine. Speaking at the White House following a meeting with Trump, Mercs emphasized that Germany and other European nations must be included in discussions to avoid accepting any agreements made without their participation. He stressed that a lasting peace can only be achieved when it is supported and legitimized by Europe.

Mercs highlighted the critical role of Europe in ensuring Ukraine's security, reconstruction, and Euro-integration, asserting that such contributions are essential to establishing peace. He pointed out that without the European Union and its close partners like the UK, no effective agreement could be reached, underlining the interconnectedness of European and American efforts in addressing the conflict.

The Chancellor also noted that Germany has been the most significant supporter of Ukraine in military, financial, and political terms since the onset of the conflict, and he expressed confidence that President Trump is well aware of this support. Mercs further remarked on the evident weakening of the Russian economy after four years of war, emphasizing the heavy toll the conflict has taken on the Russian military.
