Blažena Placida Viel, born Eulalija Viktorija Žaklina on September 26, 1815, in Quettehou, France, was the eighth child of a peasant family. Her strong rural upbringing forged her character, proving invaluable during her later religious life. At just 18, she joined the newly founded Congregation of the Sisters of Christian Schools of Charity, established by Saint Mary Magdalene Postel, embracing her new religious name, Placida. This significant step marked the beginning of her lifelong commitment to religious service and community involvement.

In 1835, Placida took her simple vows and subsequently made her solemn vows in 1838, attracting the attention of the founding mother, who recognized her virtues and nurtured her potential as a future leader. Placida undertook various roles within the community, including the responsible position of teacher for novices, which served as excellent preparation for her ascent to the head of the congregation. Her leadership was a direct result of the teachings and mentorship she received during her formative years.

Following the death of the founder Mother Postel on September 16, 1846, Placida was appointed as the abbess of the congregation, where she was tasked with guiding the community forward. Her legacy reflects not only her dedication to religious life but also her profound impact on education and the moral development of her students, reinforcing the significance of her contributions to both the church and society.
