Kim Jung-soo appointed as the head coach of the men's U-20 football national team

Former Jeju United caretaker Kim Jung-soo has been appointed head coach of South Korea's U-20 football national team.

Kim Jung-soo, formerly the caretaker coach for K League 1's Jeju United, has been appointed as the head coach of South Korea's U-20 football national team. His experience as a first-team coach and his role in helping Jeju United retain their K League 1 status last season contributed to his selection. The Korea Football Association’s strategic reinforcement committee praised Kim for his clear vision for player development at this age level and his preparedness for international tournaments.

Kim has an extensive coaching background, having previously worked as an assistant coach at Gwangju FC and as a full-time instructor for the Korea Football Association from 2014 to 2023. He led the U-17 national team to an impressive quarterfinal finish at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup and also served as the head coach for the U-20 national team from 2019 to 2021. His focus on enhancing tactical understanding among players in this age group has been recognized as a significant strength.

The newly appointed U-20 national team will begin their first training camp this month, marking the start of preparations for the 2027 U-20 Asian Cup and the World Cup. This strategic move is seen as an essential step in advancing the development of young football talent in South Korea and enhancing the nation’s competitiveness on the international stage.
