Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna is visiting Australia from March 9 to 13 amid the changing dynamics due to ongoing military conflict in the Middle East. Although the original travel route had to be adjusted, the visit remains crucial for discussing various security and economic issues between Estonia and Australia. This visit underlines the importance of international cooperation, especially in the context of the changing geopolitical landscape.

During the visit, Tsahkna intends to engage in discussions regarding the evolving security situation in the Middle East, the interconnection of security in Europe, India, and the Pacific region, and the protection of critical maritime infrastructure. Another key focus will be on deterrence amid threats to maritime security, and exploring collaboration opportunities for supporting Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict. The meeting aims to enhance economic relations between the two countries and maintain connections with the Estonian community abroad.

Tsahkna is expected to meet with several key Australian officials, including Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Marles, and Trade Minister Don Farrell. Additionally, discussions with the Speaker of the House of Representatives Milton Dick and various parliament members, including Senator Deborah O'Neill, who leads the Estonian Friendship Group in the Australian Parliament, are on the agenda. This high-level interaction marks a significant step in fostering bilateral relations and addressing shared global concerns.
