Immigration officer found dead in C’River apartment

A 30-year-old immigration officer was found dead in his Calabar apartment, with police reporting no signs of foul play at this stage.

In a tragic incident, Wofai Benson Akpama, a 30-year-old officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, was discovered lifeless in his apartment located in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State. The body was found at No. 34 Mbora Street in Etta-Agbor, prompting local resident Joy Benson to report the sudden and unnatural death to authorities. Upon her examination of the scene, which she termed alarming, she promptly contacted the police to investigate further.

The police arrived at the scene and noted that there were no visible signs of violence on Akpama’s body, leading them to initially rule out foul play. This has left the investigation focused on the exact cause of death, with autopsy results pending after the remains were sent to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital. The lack of immediate evidence suggesting an external cause for his death has raised questions about health issues or other underlying conditions that may have contributed to this unfortunate event.

The confirmation of Akpama’s death was delivered by ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River State, who reported the police investigations are ongoing. Such incidents, particularly involving government personnel, can stir public interest and implications regarding the safety and health conditions of officers in the region, warranting a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding this case.
