On February 21, human remains consisting of five bones and hair were found in a garbage bag outside the Municipal Cemetery of Luiziânia, São Paulo. The remains were confirmed to have been taken from an old grave by cemetery workers who intended to transfer them to the municipal ossuary. However, due to a mix-up, the remains were mistakenly placed in a garbage bag and removed with urban refuse by cleaning staff.
The local police chief stated that the mix-up occurred as a result of carelessness and inattention during the handling of the remains.
