Gearing up for the FIFA World Cup — 100 days to go
With 100 days until the FIFA World Cup, TransLink is enhancing public transport services in Vancouver to manage the expected influx of fans.
As the countdown to the FIFA World Cup begins, with only 100 days remaining, TransLink has announced an extensive plan to accommodate the surge of soccer fans expected in Vancouver. The organization is set to increase its bus services by adding approximately 600 additional trips each day during the tournament. This initiative aims to facilitate the transportation of fans between key locations, including a dedicated shuttle service to the PNE Fan Festival, which will connect conveniently with the Expo Line and Millennium Line.
In anticipation of the high volume of passengers, TransLink is also preparing to implement flexible transit options that account for fluctuating crowd sizes and conditions. The SkyTrain service will be significantly improved, with trains running every two to three minutes before and after matches. For events that begin at 9 p.m., the trains will operate late into the night, concluding regular service at 2:15 a.m. This enhancement is intended to ease congestion and provide a seamless travel experience for attendees of the matches.
However, safety and security measures necessitate some changes to station access on match days. Notably, the Stadium–Chinatown and Yaletown–Roundhouse SkyTrain stations will be closed for pedestrian access to BC Place due to the event's secure perimeter. Fans are advised to use the Main Street-Science World Station as their entry point to the stadium, with only one official entrance in operation on match days. This careful planning reflects a commitment to ensuring both the safety and enjoyment of fans attending this global sporting event in Vancouver.
