Dams in the interior of PE: check the water level after the rains
Recent rains in Pernambuco have increased water levels in some reservoirs, though ten are still in critical condition.
In the past few days, significant rain has impacted the interior regions of Pernambuco, resulting in an increase in water levels for several dams. According to the data released by the Pernambucana Agency of Water and Climate on Tuesday, two dams are currently overflowing, while the remaining reservoirs are either within normal capacity or critically low. This rise in water levels is a positive development for the region, which has faced challenges with water scarcity in the past.
Highlighting the positive changes, the Prata Dam in São Joaquim do Monte is now functioning at 83.83% of its total capacity, which is categorized as normal by the agency. This reservoir plays a crucial role in supplying water to the surrounding areas and its current status is vital for the local population relying on it for their daily needs. However, the situation remains dire for other reservoirs, particularly the Jucazinho Dam in Surubim, which has plummeted to less than 10% of its capacity and is considered to be in a state of collapse.
The current data illustrates the contrasting scenarios within the state's reservoir system, with some areas benefiting from recent rains while others continue to struggle with water shortages. The critical status of certain reservoirs such as Jucazinho highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the region in terms of sustainable water management and the need for ongoing monitoring and intervention to prevent further crises. This situation underlines the importance of effective water resource management in ensuring the availability of water for both agricultural and residential purposes in Pernambuco.
