Ignas Vėgėlė: Renaming the Seimas faction will be one of the factors determining its further work

Ignas Vėgėlė emphasizes the importance of renaming his parliamentary faction to united, reflecting its three components, which he believes will influence future decisions.

During an interview with LRT television, parliament member Ignas Vėgėlė raised the issue of renaming his parliamentary faction to 'united' to accurately represent its diverse components, including members from the Polish minority party, the 'Farmers' party, and independent lawmakers. He stated that the name change is crucial as it represents their collaborative identity and will significantly impact the faction's direction and decisions moving forward. The current faction consists of six members from the Farmers' party, three from the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania - Christian Families Alliance, and two independent politicians, including Vėgėlė himself.

Vėgėlė was elected to the Seimas in the 2024 fall elections through the Farmers' and Greens Union list but has not officially aligned with the party. There are concerns from the Farmers' party leader, Aurelijus Veryga, about maintaining the faction's composition until the end of the current term, which adds pressure to Vėgėlė to secure a cohesive faction that addresses internal dynamics and possible unity under a single banner.

Additionally, during a recent 'Citizens Conference' held in Kaunas, Vėgėlė announced plans to form a new political force, suggesting a strategic shift in Lithuanian politics. His absence of interest in participating in the 2027 local elections indicates his prioritization of establishing this new entity over immediate electoral ambitions. These developments could have ramifications for the political landscape in Lithuania, especially regarding minority representation and party dynamics within the Seimas.
