The Castle of Púbol explores the creative dialogue between Salvador Dalí and the photographer Horst
The Castle of Púbol exhibits a new collection highlighting the creative partnership between Salvador Dalí and photographer Horst P. Horst.
The Castle of Púbol, known as the refuge of Gala, has launched a temporary exhibition that delves into the personal and professional relationship between Salvador Dalí and his muse, Gala, and the renowned German photographer Horst P. Horst, who was a prominent figure in 20th-century fashion photography associated with Vogue magazine. The collection includes 27 items, featuring 17 iconic photographs captured by Horst, some of which showcase Dalí and Gala in dramatic poses. Additionally, three contact sheets of Dalí and Gala are reproduced in large format, alongside significant magazine publications from that era.
This exhibition not only highlights the aesthetic connection between Dalí's artwork and Horst's photography but also provides insights into their collaborative dynamics. Alongside the photographs, visitors will encounter four Vogue magazines from the time, a facsimile of a Town & Country magazine, and the painting 'Desmaterialization near the Nose of Nero' from 1947. These pieces collectively illustrate the intersection of fashion, art, and photography during a transformative period in cultural history.
Moreover, the exhibit features personal items belonging to Dalí and Gala, such as a restored necklace and three jackets, which have never been displayed before. These artifacts allow guests to get a closer look at the personal lives of these iconic figures, thereby adding a layer of intimacy to the understanding of their shared creative journey. The exhibition underscores the lasting influence that these artists had on each other and their contributions to the arts and fashion of the time.
