Two more rape suspects are expected to surrender by Wednesday (4), says detective

The detective in charge of the 12th DP in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, stated that two remaining suspects in the rape of a 17-year-old girl are expected to surrender imminently.

In an ongoing investigation into the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl in Rio de Janeiro, Detective Angelo Lages from the 12th Police District in Copacabana reported that two suspects, Bruno Felipe dos Santos Allegretti and Vitor Hugo Oliveira Simonin, are expected to surrender by Wednesday. Their lawyer is currently negotiating the surrender with the police. This case has attracted significant attention due to the involvement of Simonin, who is the son of a government official in the current administration led by Cláudio Castro.

On Tuesday, police apprehended two other suspects, Matheus Veríssimo Zoel Martins and João Gabriel Xavier Bertho, who chose to remain silent and requested to speak only in court. The investigation remains active, with police also looking into two other suspected rape cases. The legal representatives for Martins and Bertho did not make themselves available at the station, and the media has been unable to contact them for comments.

The implications of this case are considerable, particularly in light of its connection to a public figure's family. It raises questions about the legal process and possible influences in high-profile cases. Additionally, the broader issue of sexual violence against minors continues to be a pressing concern in Brazil, emphasizing the need for systemic change in societal attitudes and legal frameworks surrounding these crimes.
