Now It Begins: PS5 Pro Gets a Major Update
The PlayStation 5 Pro is set to receive a significant update in March with a new version of its PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology.
In March, the PlayStation 5 Pro will be updated with a major enhancement as a new version of the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology is launched. PSSR is PlayStation's proprietary AI-based scaling technology designed to improve image quality without compromising performance. This updated capability will be exclusive to the PS5 Pro console, which retails for 850 euros, and will be available to users at no additional cost.
The new iteration of PSSR is based on AMD's FSR4 scaler, which has been utilized on PCs since spring 2025. The updated technology is already being deployed in the recently released game, Resident Evil Requiem. According to experts from Digital Foundry, the game utilizes PSSR to upscale from 1080p to 4K without significant degradation in image quality, marking a notable improvement in graphics performance.
Digital Foundry reports that the enhanced PSSR provides impressive detail reproduction, showcasing specific features such as the stitching on character clothing and fine print on environmental signs vividly on a 4K display. The sharpness of edges has also seen substantial improvements, significantly elevating the overall visual experience of gaming for users with the updated console. This advancement not only enhances game visuals but also strengthens the PS5 Pro's position in the competitive gaming market.
