The construction boom of shelters is starting worldwide - learning from Kuopio's Cave
Kuopio's Cave, Europe's newest and most modern shelter, is drawing global attention as countries consider building more shelters in response to heightened security concerns.
The Kuopio Cave, the latest and most advanced shelter in Europe, has captured international interest following its opening in the fall of 2024. Originally designed to function as a sports and event center, this robust facility can transform into a refuge for up to 7,000 people, thanks to its thick rock walls and double steel doors. Asko Muhonen, a specialist in the city of Kuopio's overall safety, emphasizes that this shelter is primarily intended to protect against armed attacks, but it also offers protection against chemical agents, gas, and potentially nuclear fallout.
