Government raises R$ 102 thousand in auction of fishing terminals in SP and SE
The Brazilian federal government collected R$ 102.1 thousand in an auction of fishing terminals held in São Paulo and Sergipe.
The Brazilian federal government successfully auctioned off fishing terminals in São Paulo and Sergipe, raising a total of R$ 102.1 thousand. The auction took place on Tuesday at the B3 stock exchange in São Paulo. The highest bid, R$ 101.11 thousand, was placed by K. Coelho L&R for the terminal located in Cananeia, which they were the sole competitor to bid on. This terminal has been crucial for both the industrial and artisanal fishing sectors, with an estimated annual unloading of about 2,000 tons of fish between 2017 and 2019.
The second terminal auctioned was in Aracaju, where BTJ Distribuidora made a bid of R$ 990, also as the only offer for that asset. This terminal was established in 2008 through an agreement between the federal government and the state of Sergipe's Department of Agriculture, Agrarian Development, and Fishing. Spanning 1,398 square meters, the facility includes spaces for administration, fish processing, and ice manufacturing, as well as a dock.
This auction highlights the federal government's efforts to engage in public-private partnerships aimed at enhancing the fishing industry infrastructure in Brazil. The relatively low total revenue suggests that the government may need to reevaluate its strategy for promoting competitive bidding in future auctions, while also ensuring that both industrial and artisanal fishermen can continue to thrive in these vital regions.
