Manaus expands flu vaccination to the entire population from 6 months old
Manaus has expanded its flu vaccination campaign to include all residents aged six months and older, available at over 170 health units.
On Tuesday, Manaus City Hall announced an expansion of its flu vaccination campaign, making the vaccine available to all residents starting from six months of age. The vaccination can be accessed at more than 170 health units operated by the Municipal Health Secretariat (Semsa) with varying hours of operation, allowing for greater accessibility. The detailed list of health unit addresses and their hours can be found on the Semsa website.
Since the launch of the campaign on November 3, a total of 249,806 doses of the flu vaccine have been administered in Manaus, representing 40.9% of the target set for this campaign. Among these vaccinations, 77,600 doses were given to the elderly, 12,500 to pregnant women, and 89,400 to children aged six months to under six years. This data indicates a significant effort by the local health authorities to protect vulnerable populations.
Despite the campaign originally scheduled to end on February 28, the Municipal Health Secretary, ShΓ‘dia Fraxe, informed the public that there are still more than 70,000 doses available. As a result, the vaccination has been extended to the entire population in order to utilize the remaining doses effectively and ensure wider immunity against the flu within the community.
