Amazon launches 15-minute grocery delivery in Brazil and intensifies competition with delivery apps

Amazon has launched its 15-minute grocery delivery service in Brazil through Amazon Now, targeting rapid delivery and fresh food sales.

Amazon has officially entered the ultra-fast delivery market in Brazil with the launch of Amazon Now, a service promising to deliver groceries within 15 minutes. This initiative represents a significant move for the company as it diversifies its offerings in the competitive Brazilian ecommerce landscape. Starting from March 9, the service will be gradually rolled out in eight major cities, including São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, among others. Customers will be able to check the eligibility of their addresses on the Amazon site, providing a user-friendly way to access this new offering.

The Amazon Now service will allow consumers to purchase a range of grocery items such as fruits, vegetables, meats, frozen foods, beverages, and hygiene products, with a minimum order value of R$ 15 required to complete a purchase. The convenience of receiving items within 15 minutes is expected to attract a broad customer base already accustomed to rapid service patterns. The operational model is based on urban micro-fulfillment centers, from which delivery personnel will dispatch to customer homes without additional stops, further enhancing efficiency.

This launch intensifies the competitive landscape for delivery services in Brazil, where several apps have already established a foothold in the rapid delivery sector. By introducing this service, Amazon aims to challenge existing players and potentially reshape consumer expectations regarding grocery delivery. The success of Amazon Now could influence future strategies among competitors and may mark a notable shift in how fresh food and grocery items are delivered in urban Brazilian markets.
