Iran Concentrates Retaliation on Gulf Countries

Iran has shifted its military focus towards Arab neighbors in the Persian Gulf, conducting more attacks on them than on Israel since the recent conflict escalated.

For the first time since its confrontation with Iraq in the 1980s, Iran is concentrating its military actions in the Middle East against its Arab neighbors rather than solely focusing on Israel. Recent reports indicate that five Gulf nations have experienced a significant number of attacks from Iran, surpassing the number directed at Israel, which started the current war alongside the United States last Saturday. The context of these attacks is complicated by the typical obscurity surrounding conflict situations, making it challenging to obtain precise figures.

According to data from the Israeli Institute for National Security Studies, there have been 1,815 reported attacks against Gulf countries by the morning of Tuesday (3), with 527 carried out using missiles and the remainder via drones. In contrast, Israel has reported 113 assaults originating from Iran but has not specified the types of weaponry used. An Israeli military source indicated that it is realistic to estimate an average of 10 projectiles per attack, suggesting that individual attacks might number around 1,130, highlighting the scale of Iranian military involvement in the region.

The strategic implications of Iran's focus on the Gulf states raise concerns about regional stability and potential escalations in conflict. This shift in military approach reflects Iran's response to the evolving geopolitical landscape and its ongoing tensions with neighboring Arab countries, indicating a willingness to expand its military engagements at the risk of further destabilizing the Middle East.
