Ukrainian Paralympians barred from wearing ‘political’ uniform

The International Paralympic Committee has prohibited Ukraine’s national team from using a ceremonial uniform that featured a map including territories claimed by Ukraine but incorporated into Russia.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has mandated a sudden change in the ceremonial uniforms of Ukraine's national team for the upcoming Winter Paralympics due to their design containing a map encompassing regions that Ukraine asserts as part of its territory, including areas that have voted to join Russia since 2014. This map not only includes Crimea, which was annexed by Russia years ago, but also the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, along with the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, signaling a contentious political statement. The IPC has ruled that such a design promotes a political agenda, which contravenes its established regulations on uniform designs for participating nations.
