Confectionary Industries: Increases Over 20% with New Collective Labor Agreement

A new collective labor agreement has been signed that secures over 20% wage increases for workers in Greece's confectionary industry.

On Tuesday, the first sectoral collective labor agreement for Greece's confectionary industry was signed, which affects around 2,000 companies and approximately 23,000 workers. This agreement was reached through a social agreement and involved key labor and employer organizations, including the union POEET, supported by GSEE, and the employers' associations EBBZE and SEV.

The three-year collective labor agreement guarantees cumulative wage increases exceeding 20% until December 2028, while also ensuring the maintenance of benefits outlined in labor law. Furthermore, workers employed as chief technicians in the sector will receive an additional 20% increase in their wages. According to GSEE, this agreement demonstrates the effectiveness of the new legislative framework that emerged from extensive social dialogue between the involved parties, reflecting a commitment to the betterment of working conditions and employee interests.

The signing of this agreement marks a significant development in labor relations within the confectionary industry in Greece, highlighting a trend towards cooperation and mutual benefit among social partners. It represents an important step for workers in securing better wages and acknowledges the evolving landscape of labor rights in a contemporary context. Such agreements could serve as a model for other sectors seeking to improve worker compensation and conditions through collective bargaining.
