High tide and heavy rains: Civil Defense of Aracaju issues flood alert
The Civil Defense of Aracaju has issued an alert for heavy rains and high tides that may result in flooding in certain neighborhoods until late Wednesday.
The Civil Defense of Aracaju has sounded the alarm for residents due to the dual threat of high tides and intense rainfall, which is anticipated to last until 11:59 PM on Wednesday. They highlight that these conditions often lead to flooding, particularly affecting neighborhoods such as 13 de Julho, Soledade, Lamarão, Bugio, and Jardim Centenário. The agency reports that precipitation levels can reach up to 60 mm per hour and potentially accumulate to 100 mm in a single day, creating serious risks for local communities.
In addition, the Port Authority has warned that the peak of the high tide is expected at 4:27 PM, with waters potentially rising to 2.2 meters. Residents should be aware that the tide level could reach 2.19 meters later in the day, further increasing the possibility of inundation. The Civil Defense encourages the public to stay informed and prepared, offering a contact number for emergencies and suggestions to receive weather alerts via SMS by sending their postal code.
This warning follows a weekend where heavy rainfall already caused considerable disruption, particularly in the southern zone of Aracaju. The combination of high tides and rainfall puts stress on the already vulnerable areas, igniting concerns about public safety and infrastructure stability as authorities brace for possible flooding events.
