Bane Nor halts and postpones several development projects

Bane Nor has announced the suspension and delay of several infrastructure projects due to significant budget cuts expected in 2026.

Bane Nor, the Norwegian state-owned railway infrastructure company, has announced that it will halt and postpone multiple development projects as part of a necessary response to substantial investment cuts anticipated in 2026. Bettina Sandvin, the director of Bane Nor Utbygging, acknowledged the difficulty of these decisions but emphasized their necessity in maintaining the integrity of the state infrastructure budget.

The organization did not disclose specific details regarding which projects will be affected and has yet to respond to queries from the Norwegian News Agency (NTB) about the exact projects in question. Bane Nor is actively communicating with the municipalities involved in the halted or delayed projects, underlining the financial constraints that are compelling them to suspend initiatives without guaranteed funding.

Despite these setbacks, Bane Nor reiterated that it would still be able to realize projects valued at approximately 8.5 billion Norwegian kroner by the end of 2026. Currently active projects will continue as planned and adhere to established deadlines, indicating a commitment to fulfilling ongoing obligations while managing a reduced financial landscape that affects not just Bane Nor, but numerous stakeholders involved in the infrastructure sector.
