Nuclear bomb in Poland? This survey leaves no illusions

A recent survey indicates that a majority of Poles support the acquisition of nuclear weapons for their country.

A recent poll conducted by the Institute of Market and Opinion Research on behalf of Radio ZET revealed significant public sentiment towards Poland acquiring nuclear weapons. According to the survey, 50.9% of respondents favored the idea of Poland obtaining nuclear arms, with 30% responding 'rather yes' and 20.9% indicating 'definitely yes.' This marks a notable expression of public opinion on a sensitive and potentially controversial subject within the country.

However, there is a significant portion of the population opposed to the notion, with 38.6% against it. This opposition is broken down into those who 'rather no' (23.5%) and 'definitely no' (15.1%), indicating that while a majority supports nuclear acquisition, a substantial minority remains concerned about the implications of such a move. Additionally, 10.5% of respondents expressed no opinion on the issue, reflecting the complexity and divisiveness of this topic among the Polish public.

The survey also reveals variations in opinion based on gender and political affiliation, particularly between supporters of the Civic Coalition (KO) and Law and Justice (PiS). This insight into public sentiment can have significant implications for Polish policymakers as they navigate national security and defense strategies in a changing geopolitical landscape.
