In a shocking incident in Baspar village, Maharajganj district, 60-year-old Sumitra brutally murdered her 65-year-old husband, Rampat. The event unfolded on a Tuesday when Sumitra set their home ablaze while her husband was sleeping inside and locked the door from outside before escaping. Upon noticing smoke, local villagers alerted the police, who found Rampat's charred remains once they opened the door. According to villagers, the couple had been embroiled in a long-standing dispute, with reports suggesting Sumitra had previously attempted to harm Rampat.
The police, led by Shyamdeorwa station chief Abhishek Singh, indicated that the initial investigation points towards domestic conflict as the motive behind the murder. Villagers reported frequent arguments between the couple. The police are now thoroughly investigating whether Sumitra had previously threatened Rampat or if there were other incidents of violence in their relationship. Following the incident, the police registered a murder case against Sumitra under section 103(1) of the Indian Penal Code.
