The President says he understands the goals of the US actions in Iran, condemns Tehran's response
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda emphasizes support for US actions in Iran, citing failed diplomatic efforts to prevent nuclear development and condemning Iran's harsh treatment of its citizens.
During a press conference, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda expressed his understanding of the United States' objectives in its military operations concerning Iran, particularly in light of unsuccessful diplomatic measures taken to halt Iran's nuclear weapon development. He emphasized that the extreme brutality faced by local populations within Iran is intolerable, urging an international perspective on the matter.
President Nausėda pointed out the necessity of a broader examination of international law in the context of Middle Eastern conflict, especially regarding the risks posed by a potential nuclear-armed Tehran. He called for a balanced consideration of both regional safety and the human rights violations occurring within Iran, which jeopardize internal stability.
He advocates for conflict resolution through peaceful means and suggests that there might still be a viable path forward. However, he firmly states that such a path cannot be pursued alongside Iran's aggressive actions against sovereign states in the Persian Gulf, reinforcing Lithuania's position on seeking diplomatic solutions while condemning violence and hostility.
