Tanzania: MP Touts for Plan to Lift Region's Economy
A Tanzanian MP has called for a comprehensive economic plan to enhance the economic situation in Kagera Region.
In a recent interview, Innocent Bashungwa, the Member of Parliament for Karagwe, emphasized the need for a collaborative effort among leaders in Kagera Region to develop a comprehensive plan aimed at boosting the local economy. He highlighted the region's potential as a fertile ground for investors and urged stakeholders to explore and harness its abundant untapped resources for economic growth. By considering innovative approaches, the leaders can work together to elevate Kagera from its current low ranking in economic performance.
Bashungwa pointed out that Kagera Region ranks near the bottom nationally in economic standings, occupying the 25th place out of 26 regions in Tanzania. However, he remains optimistic about the region's growth prospects, noting its strategic location bordering Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi, which provides access to additional markets. He urged local leaders to leverage this geographical advantage to attract investment and create economic opportunities for the community.
The legislator's remarks come at a time when there is a pressing need for solutions to uplift the living standards in Kagera, which has been hindered by economic challenges. By formulating a well-thought-out economic plan, Bashungwa believes that the region can transform its fortunes and improve the overall quality of life for its residents, fostering an environment where businesses can thrive and employment opportunities can increase.
