Hyundai and Kia sales in February total 550,000 units, down 4% from last year
Hyundai and Kia recorded 550,000 vehicle sales in February, a 4% decrease compared to the same month last year, with domestic sales impacted by fewer business days due to the Lunar New Year holiday.
In February, Hyundai and Kia reported a total of 550,000 vehicle sales across domestic and international markets, which marked a 4% decline from February of the previous year. The sales figures were released by the Hyundai Motor Group, indicating that domestic sales were down by 13.8% to 89,010 units, attributed largely to reduced business days during the Lunar New Year festival. Both companies emphasized this temporary decline while outlining their overall sales performance.
Breaking down the sales further, Hyundai sold 47,008 units domestically, which represented a 17.8% decrease from the previous year. Notably, sedan sales included the Grandeur with 3,933 units, Sonata with 4,436 units, and Elantra with 3,628 units. The SUV segment also saw significant sales with models like the Palisade and Santa Fe contributing to a total of 18,756 units. Additionally, Genesis, Hyundai's luxury brand, managed to sell 6,942 units in February.
Kia, on the other hand, saw a domestic sales decrease of 8.7% with total sales of 42,002 units, where the Sorento topped the sales chart with 7,693 units sold. The company saw robust sales in electric vehicles and SUVs, with models like the Sportage and Carnival also performing well outside the domestic market. In total, international sales for the month were reported at 464,525 units, down 1.9%, thus underlining the competitive challenges faced by these manufacturers in both local and global arenas.
