This clarification was prompted by false reports suggesting that no distress calls had been received from Nigerians amidst the ongoing crisis and escalating tensions in the region.

In a statement released by the commission's Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, NIDCOM emphasized that such claims were unfounded and a misunderstanding of their communications. Balogun personally denied having made any statement indicating a lack of distress calls, affirming the commission’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Nigerians in other countries.
