The youngest candidate in the upcoming presidential elections in Congo-Brazzaville, Melaine Destin Gavet Elengo, has launched his campaign while challenging the long-standing leadership in the country.
In the run-up to the presidential elections scheduled for March 15 in Congo-Brazzaville, all seven candidates, including the incumbent president Denis Sassou-Nguesso and the youngest contender Melaine Destin Gavet Elengo, have commenced their campaigns from February 28. Sassou-Nguesso, aged 82, has been in power for over 40 years, while Gavet, who turns 35 on March 10, represents a significant shift in the political landscape of the country, advocating for change and a prosperous future.
Gavet, a trained geological engineer and oil expert, kicked off his campaign in Ouesso, close to the border with Cameroon, and is progressing through northern regions such as Makoua, Owando, and Ewo. His political platform, presented through his party the Mouvement républicain, emphasizes a desire for transformation within Congo-Brazzaville, expressing a vision to restore dignity and improve the living conditions of its citizens.
